Rigveda is the oldest scripture or text in the world. It is a collection of hymns (suktas). There are mantras in every hymn. Rigveda is one of the four vedas and is oldest of the four veda in the sequence of the history of the vedas. There are total 10,552 mantras in the Rigveda. The original form of Rigveda is Rigveda Samhita. What is Samhita? That which contains the mantras are called samhitas. The mantras portion in the mandalas are known as samhita.
