Deep Spiritual and Philosophical Meaning of Word Namaste
Namaste is a Sanskrit word. Namaste is made of two words, namas and te. Namas comes from the verbal root nam which means to bow and “Te” means, to you. And so namaste literally means, “bowing to you”. Hence, namaste is made with two hands held together at the heart where the atman (Inner Self) is said to reside.
What does it mean when you say Namaste?
When we do namaste we are bowing to the atma (Inner Self) and paramatma (Absolute self) within and not to the body without. It also stands for – My regard for you or my love for you or my wishes for you, based on the situation. All our scriptures use the word Namaste for greetings whenever two people meet.
